Advocacy Progress

So my advocacy project is, admittedly, not very far along. I have had a busy week and planned to put a lot of my time into it this weekend, but here is what I have so far. In reference to the petition I have planned, I still have to decide whether I want to circulate both a physical sheet and an electronic one online or to just use a physical one. Either way, this is my introduction to try to garner support (when I try to get signatures in person I will be able to explain it further and answer any questions they might have):

This is an appeal to the residents (either permanent or temporary) of the borough of State College. For decades, there have been movements in communities across the country in favor of recycling. These efforts have reduced the amount of plastic waste dumped into landfills but the sad truth is that close to 13% of disposable one-use bottles are recycled every year in the US. That leaves an enormous amount to be tossed into landfills. If the efforts of consumers are not entirely effective, what can be done to curb the destruction of the environment by the water bottle industry? The answer is to shift the blame back to the manufacturers. With this petition, State College can become part of a new movement in the US: efforts to restrict the sale of the disposable on-use water bottles that are helping to destroy the environment. Each signature on this petition sends a message to the State College Borough Council that the public wants to recognize the fading need for these bottles.

Besides that, I still have to piece together the actual letter to be sent and to get as many signatures as possible, which I plan to do throughout the weekend on into the beginning of the week.
